The Floor As Your Canvas – Sambil Santo Domingo

Design Notes: The first Sambil Mall was built in 1998 in Caracas, Venezuela using cement terrazzo for its decorative floors in the corridors and walking areas. The Sambil group continued to use that flooring system in seven additional malls they constructed leading up to the construction of the Santo Domingo Mall. In 2010 they began construction on the Sambil Mall Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the biggest Mall of the Caribbean.  With this new project they wanted higher design with brighter colors. Unfortunately with the limitations of cement terrazzo they were not able to achieve some of the bright colors the architect wanted to include. So they made the decision to switch to epoxy terrazzo for the common areas and aisles.

While researching for an experienced epoxy terrazzo contractor they located Garcia Smester, who had previously been successful on two large epoxy terrazzo projects for commercial centers in the Dominican Republic. The architect was very comfortable with Garcia Smester’s installation history and assigned this Sambil Mall project to them. Upon completion the owners & architects were extremely satisfied with the transition to epoxy terrazzo and their new mall which continues to be the center piece of the Caribbean.

Explore the Luxury of Viareggio

Known as the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea,” Viareggio is an alluring and sophisticated city located in northern Tuscany. The silky, sandy beaches offer breathtaking views of the Apuan Alps, home to the most beautiful white marble in the world. Part of Viareggio’s appeal is its rich history and prestige, making this seaside resort one of the most desired places to visit.

The prestige surrounding this city is due in large part to its shipbuilding industry. The most luxurious cruising yachts that sail the seas of the entire world were launched from the shipyards of Viareggio. It is here that you will find some of the most skilled and talented craftsmen of these ships. The same craftsmen that, in the earlier years of the now famed Carnival of Viareggio, played a huge role in the creation of the floats.

The city’s rich history continues today with the renowned Carnival of Viareggio. This yearly celebration, dating back to 1873, is given by a parade of floats and masks depicting caricatures of popular people. The finest and most magnificent parade has brought and continues to bring different cultures and people together.

Terrazzo & Marble invites you to be a part of history and explore the luxury of Viareggio…

Design Notes: Talk about a grand entrance! The stunning geometric design was the perfect choice for both the space and the architecture of the building.  Over 100 hulien green marble tiles are embedded in the floor and surrounded by four subtle neutral terrazzo colors.  The combination of marble, mother-of-pearl and mirror chips accent this intricate yet timeless pattern.  Terrazzo offers an environmentally friendly and extremely durable choice for academic settings.
