Design Notes: This Uptown Train Station and City Hall located in Normal, IL is anything but Normal. Being known as the second busiest Amtrak station in Illinois, and the City Hall of Normal, terrazzo was the first choice for flooring. A clean and simple color scheme was chosen on the ground floor in order to complement the focal point, an intricate terrazzo graphic of a compass with retro depictions of trains, buses, cars and pedestrians. The floor layout follows a radius design throughout, tying together both ramped floors and precast treads and risers. This 12,000 square-foot of 3/8” epoxy terrazzo in nine colors is built to last 100 years.

Design Notes: Resembling the beaches of Florida, Jacksonville International Airport Terminal Expansion has over 100 sea fossil themed glass mosaics embedded in the floor throughout the terminal. These mosaics were hand placed with clear epoxy, then pigmented resin was poured through each of the designs. For high traffic areas, a grand stylized wave flow design was used along with a hand broadcast blend of recycled glass and mother-of-pearl chips to represent the sun on white caps at the beach. This 225,000 square foot terrazzo installation was polished to a 3,000 grit finish to achieve its finishing touches giving the saying ‘Welcome to Sunny Florida’ a whole new meaning.

Design Notes: Nu Vista Living’s facility welcomes guests and visitors with its bright and inviting newly remodeled terrazzo flooring. The focal point of this project is a fiery medallion at the center of the terrazzo floor which radiates outwards into a geometrical pattern. Inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, the tone-on-tone colors were achieved by changing the resin color while keeping the aggregate mix the same. In addition to marble aggregates, Mother-of-Pearl was used adding a glimmer of iridescence. The seamless floor is easily maintained and great for high traffic.

Design Notes: Top End Constructors and NBBJ Architects had to work together to expand and renovate the UCLA Pauley Pavilion into a modern facility while matching the university’s signature structure and layout. A monolithic design was chosen, with a simple four color pattern of bands and stripes. This helped achieve a seamless finish with an excellent color match for this 70,000 square-foot epoxy terrazzo floor, base and stair stadium. A combination of cast in place and precast terrazzo was used for the waterfall staircase, along with curbs of terrazzo for the stairwells.

Terrazzo flooring systems have existed for centuries, dating back to Roman times. Marble chips, byproducts of exquisite sculptures, were mixed with cement and ground to a polished finish to create the original terrazzo flooring system. This enduring mixture is still used today, but with a few modern modifications.
With your surface as the canvas, Terroxy® Resin Systems provides the ability to transform creativity into a durable and timeless art. The glue that truly bonds your system together, Terroxy® Resin Systems’ Epoxy Matrix, provides a beautiful, seamless surface that is easy to maintain.
Terroxy® Epoxy Matrix:
Terroxy® Epoxy Matrix provides a system that is long lasting and easy to maintain. Resistant to chemicals, oil, grease and bacteria, Terroxy® Epoxy Matrix is ideal for commercial, industrial and institutional applications. This special formula does not allow for colors to fade or to wear thin. The colors you choose today will be just as vibrant in 40 years.
Terrazzo Chip-Aggregate For Terrazzo Flooring:
The specialty aggregates included in terrazzo flooring are the primary ingrediant of the terrazzo design mix, typically representing 70% of the flooring system. These aggregates are most commonly marble chips; however, glass and other specialty aggregates are also suitable for terrazzo flooring.
Domus Divider Strip:
Divider strips are commonly used in terrazzo flooring to serve two basic needs: form and function. For thin-set epoxy terrazzo, the most common divider strips are an “L” type manufactured in a white zinc alloy or brass.
Divider strips may simply serve as a transition between colors or they may be bent on the job site or water-jet cut at the factory to form intricate designs, logo artwork and lettering.
The primary function divider strips offer is to control cracking in your terrazzo flooring topping.
T&M offers custom strip design for any terrazzo project from basic patterns to the most complex designs.
ecoTrazzo-Sustainable Living:
ecoTrazzo is a thin-set epoxy terrazzo flooring system designed to provide additional green benefits relative to traditional poured-in-place terrazzo systems.
The key components to an ecoTrazzo floor include the incorporation of sustainable chips and VOC.
