2017 NTMA Project of the Year
McCarran International Airport, Baggage Claim & Ticketing – Las Vegas, NV
McCarran Baggage Claim replaced 240,000 square-feet of outdated carpet and tile with 3/8” Epoxy Terrazzo Flooring.
The owner desired a unique look that would be noticed by all passengers.
In order to bring his visions to life, 27 different colors utilizing a combination of mirror, glass and mother of pearl aggregates were used.
A total of three different terrazzo logo designs were installed to greet and welcome passengers from every angle of the space.
The 40 foot medallion featured in the center would be the focal point of the project, where over 5,000 lineal feet of 1/8” zinc divider strip was hand bent by the terrazzo contractor onsite.
The amount of attention to detail that was put into the medallion and logos could not be accomplished by anyone other than a terrazzo artist.

2016 NTMA Project of the Year
Pittsburgh International Airport Airside Terminal – Pittsburgh, PA
This multifaceted 70,000 square-foot public art installation in terrazzo re-configured the circulation spaces of the central concourse while beautifully reflecting the heritage and vibrancy of the region.
The flight-inspired design, “The Sky Beneath Our Feet,” gives pedestrians a bird’s eye view of the vast blue dome of the sky, intersected with historic aircraft and flight contrails.
The five floor murals, spanning up to 100 feet, present intricate silhouettes of the iconic local skyline in exacting authenticity and rich detail.
The murals contain as many as 600 individually cut pieces. The free flowing clouds required approximately 15,000 feet of strips to be bent by hand onsite and laid out according to the artist’s vision.
Approximately 70,000 square-feet of templates were water-jet cut for the divider strip layout and then laid out along control lines in the terminal floor to ensure an exact duplication of the pattern, lining up each section through the 60 distinct phases of the work.

2015 NTMA Project of the Year
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Sky Train Terminal – Phoenix, AZ
This 24,000 square-foot commissioned public art project illustrates the design flexibility of terrazzo.
The dynamic floor’s seven intense colors, 3D effects and graceful interplay of shapes over patterns are among the project’s many assets.
In designs inspired by traditional Navajo pottery and weaving patterns, water-jet cutting replaced divider strips to separate colors.
Over 5,000 torpedo shapes in five sizes were water-jet cut from precast terrazzo slabs and another 4,000 triangles cut from black granite and hand set.
Precision was imperative in the project, especially in the diamond pattern, which required a higher number of linear feet of divider strip than square feet of terrazzo.
The varied, abstract rings of the turquoise eyes of the flowers were hand-bent. With surrounding floor-to-ceiling glass, an epoxy mortar with a 1/8-inch in 10 feet tolerance was chosen to ensure a flat surface to clearly reflect light.
While designed on a relatively small scale, the floor’s clean, modern patterns keep pace within the huge concourse. This project is a feat of master craftsmanship and achievement of design intent.
